Diet wins hands down for a flat belly!  But that doesn’t give you an excuse not to exercise.  There are several reasons why diet is the faster fat buster.

If you decide not to eat a chocolate bar then you’re saving yourself some considerable calories that you would otherwise have to work off in exercise such as a very brisk walk for an hour.

The main issue is that when we exercise we tend to overcompensate with eating more food.  This often negates our progress without realizing why.  ‘Well I am exercising all the time’ you may say, but you may be eating just the same or even more and so find yourself going nowhere. This happens often without people realizing why.

Make your calories healthy.  Focus on eating more protein and a small amount of carbs each day.  Really cut down on the carbs.  Have one slice of toast for breakfast, or one small serve of pasta or one potato but not all three.  Also have low fat dairy no more than two serves of fruit and avoid starchy vegetables such as potato, sweet potato and carrots.  Instead think salad or vegetables such as zucchini, eggplant, capsicum, tomatoes and squash. Belly Fat and Stress

Are you trying in vain to lose belly fat? Have you tried everything possible within the realm of reality to lose fat? Changed your diet, exercising and living a healthy lifestyle. But the belly fat will not budge.  You actually couldn’t be any more disciplined and you’re not seeing the results you know you should be seeing.

Sometimes the culprit can be as simple as stress.  Stress locks in fat, especially stomach fat.  How can stress be responsible for tummy fat?  Well let me explain.

If you are stressed in your work or with family and relationships or generally stressed out in life or whatever is making you unhappy, chemicals are released from the brain.  These chemicals immediately hit the adrenal glands which sit above the kidneys.  You have probably heard of the adrenal glands which are responsible for your flight or fight response. Pilates Posture for a Strong Core

Posted by Kelly Beck January 24th, 2013

The powerhouse referred to in Pilates is a name Joseph Pilates use to call what we commonly cue today as the core. You will often hear Pilates Instructors cue when teaching exercises to scoop the belly in and up, draw your navel to the spine, zip up and hollow and to use your powerhouse.

Where is the powerhouse or core? This is the center of the body and runs between the bottom of the ribcage to just below the buttocks.  It includes the pelvic floor musculature, the muscles that attach to or pass through the pelvis, buttocks, abdominals, spinal muscles and the diaphragm. The inner thighs also play an important role but mostly the powerhouse is thought of as the abdominals, back and buttocks.

The powerhouse is a good name for what we need to be strong in order to function optimally. The powerhouse when working efficiently stabilizes the pelvis and the torso, and ideally all movement initiates from the powerhouse or core. (more…)
